ABOUT LAMAR

To Lamar Williams Jr., all music is soul music. As the son of Lamar Williams, bassist for The Allman Brothers Band during their commercial peak, the singer grew up in Macon, Georgia steeped in and shaped by the music of legends, enriching himself in everything from Otis Redding to Blind Willie McTell and beyond.

In addition to his primary gig with The New Mastersounds, the jazz/blues/funk group out of Leeds, UK, Lamar toured with the North Mississippi Allstars for two years and was featured on their 2022 Grammy-nominated album Set Sail. In 2022 and 2023 he also served as a vocalist and frontman for all-star jam band Trouble No More and with jazz project Big Band of Brothers (alongside his father’s lifelong friend and original Allman Brothers Band member Jaimoe). Lamar’s work has taken him quite literally all over the world, from performing in stadiums for crowds of close to 100,000 to hot clubs in Tokyo and Europe.

Now, Williams is preparing for his next chapter - an album that introduces his own music to the world. “It excites me because I want the world to understand more of me,” he shares, emphasizing that he’s spent so much time around some of the best musicians on the planet that he can’t help but feel inspired to dig into his own artistry, too. He’s working on something he hopes achieves the timeless quality he loves in so much of his favorite music — “I hope that this album fits into someone’s heart,” he explains.

Now based in the Atlanta area but leveraging his wide-ranging network of songwriters and musician friends for the forthcoming record, Williams also always has an eye on the road. “Music tames us as much as it changes us,” he says, noting that performing live often acts as a powerful unifying force for people.

After so many years in the spotlight, Williams will be taking center stage in a bold new way — and it’s one you don’t want to miss.
